Budgeting can be a tough habit to maintain especially if you have a lot of numbers, but it’s oh-so-important for women who want to take control of their finances. Because budgeting can feel like a drag sometimes, everyone could use a little extra motivation to keep their spirits elevated when it comes to budgeting. That said, today’s motivation comes in the form of 42 budget quotes (in total) that will improve your mindset!

Budget quotes

Why budget quotes are inspiring!

Want to know why quotes about budgeting help? Quotes are short and sweet bits of wisdom or humor (Check out our funny money quotes!) based on something someone has said, which in turn inspires us to keep moving forward when the going gets tough.

Budgeting quotes are usually quite brief, so they can help us focus and give us just the push we need to continue on with our day even if the tasks we’re doing don’t feel like they matter much in the moment.

Below are 42 budget quotes broken out by category to inspire you, motivate you, help you stay on track, and give you ideas to take your budget mindset to the next level.

8 Quotes on budgeting for overall inspiration

We all know the purpose of a budget but sometimes, just a little bit of inspiration can be just what we need to stay focused.

Use these inspirational budget quotes to reignite your passion for budgeting and find the inspiration you need to keep going!

1. “If we command our wealth, we shall be rich and free. If our wealth commands us, we are poor indeed.” – Edmund Burke

2. “Budgeting is not just for people who do not have enough money. It is for everyone who wants to ensure that their money is enough.” – Rosette Mugidde Wamambe

3. “Every cent you own and every moment you spend is always an investment.” – Natalie Pace

4. “If broke people are making fun of your financial plan, you are on the right track.” – Unknown

5. “Life is a dance between making it happen and letting it happen.” – Arianna Huffington

6. “One reason people resist change is because they focus on what they have to give up, instead of what they have to gain.” – Rick Godwin

7. “A budget doesn’t limit your freedom; it gives you freedom.” – Rachel Cruze

8. “Our goals can only be reached through a vehicle of a plan, in which we must fervently believe, and upon which we must vigorously act. There is no other route to success.” – Picasso

Remember why you are budgeting in the first place

What I love about these inspirational quotes is that they remind us why we budget, which is helpful when we’re mired deep in the how of budgeting.

When you forget to “find your why” budgeting can sometimes feel like you’re just slogging through the numbers, making a ton of sacrifice and making yourself feel guilty about what you’ve spent our money on.

But in reality, the whole point of budgeting is to find financial freedom. As Rachel Cruze said, a budget gives you freedom. So, these quotes can help you keep that freedom top of mind.

I encourage you to pick one or two of these quotes that resonate with you and write them on a post-it note. (Or if you’re feeling fancy, type them up in a pleasing font and print them out.)

Post them somewhere you’ll see them often. They’ll inspire you to whip out your budgeting app or spreadsheet even when you don’t feel like it. Additionally, it’s worth thinking about what your favorite quotes about budgeting are and using them in your everyday life.

8 Motivating quotes even when budgeting is hard

Sometimes budgeting can be downright hard. It could be that your budget isn’t going accordingly to plan or you are just too tired or stressed to track it.

However, there are some handy, motivational quotes about budgeting you can use. These quotes will give you the motivation you need to keep budgeting!

1. “Becoming rich is hard. Staying broke is hard. Choose your hard.” – Eric Worre

2. “You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.” – Martin Luther King, Jr.

3. “The slightest adjustments to your daily routines can dramatically alter the outcomes in your life.” – Darren Hardy

4. “It is not necessary to do extraordinary things to get extraordinary results.” – Warren Buffett

5. “Money, like motions, is something you must control to keep your life on the right track.” – Natasha Munson

6. “A budget isn’t about restricting what you can spend. It gives you permission to spend without guilt or regret.” – Unknown

7. “If you don’t get serious about your money, you will never have serious money.” – Grant Cardone

8. “People do not decide their futures. They decide their habits, and their habits decide their futures.” – FM Alexander

Small actions add up to big progress over time

One reason that I find budgeting so draining is that it takes small, consistent, and often monotonous actions to see tangible, exciting results. And as a result, those actions can feel meaningless when we lose sight of why we’re doing them.

For instance, on a day-to-day basis, it can be easy to think to yourself, “I won’t ruin my budget if I don’t budget today.” However, say that too many times and soon you won’t have a budget at all.

Use these quotes to motivate yourself to keep doing the small actions every day (or at least once a week!). Actions like importing your transactions, categorizing your expenses, and reviewing your monthly budget progress do matter.

There are ways to make budgeting easier. Find budget templates or tools that work for you and make budgeting less painful.

12 Budget quotes to help you save more money

Saving money can be painful and demotivating, especially when you’re first starting out. Additionally, even a small leak can have big consequences.

However, with the best quotes about budgeting by your side, you can upgrade your saving habits and find motivation for saving money. So here are some quotes to help you stay focused as you work on saving more money:

1. “Money is only a tool. It will take you wherever you wish, but it will not replace you as the driver.” – Ayn Rand

2. “Too many people spend money they haven’t earned, to buy things they don’t want, to impress people they don’t like.” – Will Rogers

3. “You must gain control over your money or the lack of it will forever control you.” – Unknown

4. “When money realizes that it is in good hands, it wants to stay and multiply in those hands.” – Idowu Koyenikan

5. “Beware of little expenses; a little leak will sink a great ship.” – Benjamin Franklin

6. “Don’t give up what you want most for what you want now.” – Unknown

7. “Unless you control your money, making more won’t help. You’ll just have bigger payments.” – Dave Ramsey

8. “Money isn’t about buying bigger and better things. It’s about being prepared to take care of your family.” – Unknown

9. “Save money, and money will save you!” – John Soforic

10. “Don’t save what is left after spending; spend what is left after saving.” – Warren Buffett

11. “The rich get rich because they pay themselves first.” – David Bach

12. “We must consult our means rather than our wishes.”― George Washington

Learn how to spend money so you can save more money

I subscribe to the philosophy that if you’re cutting back on expenses to the point of depriving yourself of everything you love, you’re not likely to stick with your budget.

That said, I didn’t include any budget quotes that shame you for spending money on things you love. Budgeting shouldn’t be about only spending money on the bare necessities, because you need fun money, too.

Instead, opt for creative savings where you can. Don’t spend your money on expenses that don’t truly bring you joy or value. And if you do have to cut back on some things to save money, use these budget quotes about saving to remind yourself why you’re doing so.

5 Budgeting quotes that will inspire you to earn more

Sometimes our budgets reveal that if we want to truly make progress toward our financial goals, we need to start earning more money.

And when we do start earning more money, our budget helps keep us accountable to actually save that money instead of increasing expenses.

In addition, there are a bunch of budgeting quotes that can help here. So let’s take a look at are our favorite quotes about this:

1. “Become so financially secure that you forget it’s payday.” – Unknown

2. “The more your money works for you, the less you have to work for money.” – Idowu Koyenikan

3. “The stock market is designed to transfer money from the active to the patient.” – Warren Buffett

4. “Compound interest is the eighth wonder of the world. He who understands it, earns it, he who doesn’t, pays it.” – Albert Einstein

5. “Don’t make money, create wealth. Making money is easy. Being able to create and sustain wealth is what will set you apart from the rest.” – John Rampton

You have what it takes to earn more money

Many of these budget quotes reveal that one of the easiest ways to earn more money is to put your money to work for you and invest.

However, are you afraid you don’t have enough knowledge about investing? Investing for beginners isn’t as difficult as you’d think.

You don’t have to be an expert on investing to get started, and there are plenty of resources to help you learn more. (Order the Clever Girl Finance book Learn How Investing Works, Grow Your Money today!)

You can also learn how to invest with a small amount of money. Investing just a little bit today can earn you more than investing a lot of money in a few years, thanks to the power of compound interest.

9 Best quotes on budgeting overall

This last section includes some of the best quotes of all time on budgeting. Many of these budget quotes were spoken by people who have seen firsthand how the power of budgeting helps you grow wealth and become financially secure.

1. “The simplest definition of a budget is ‘telling your money where to go.” – Tsh Oxenreider

2. “Don’t tell me what you value, show me your budget, and I’ll tell you what you value.” – Joe Biden

3. “A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” – Dave Ramsey

4. “A budget is more than just a series of numbers on a page; it is an embodiment of our values.” – Barack Obama

5. “The budget is not just a collection of numbers, but an expression of our values and aspirations.” – Jacob Lew

6. “Money is a terrible master but an excellent servant.” – P.T. Barnum

7. “Got my mind on my money, and my money on my mind.” – Snoop Dogg

8. “Stop being the chess piece, and start being the chess player. It’s time to master the game of money once and for all.” – Tony Robbins

9. “Budgeting isn’t about limiting yourself – it’s about making the things that excite you possible.” – Unknown

Chances are, one or two of these will resonate with you and remind you why you’ve committed to budgeting in the first place.

The speed of your success depends entirely on your own dedication to budgeting. You can change your spending habits and the way that you manage money by identifying your true needs. Also use these quotes to align your purpose for budgeting with your personal core values

Expert tip: Create a budgeting vision board

Nobody can do the work for you. When it comes to the understanding of your budget, you are the master of your own destiny.

But sometimes, we all need a little motivation to get things moving. With a little creativity, you can make your own budgeting vision board.

For example, include images that make you feel motivated, a handful of the best budgeting quotes, and anything else that inspires you.

Saving money is the result of habit. The secret to getting it right is reminding yourself why you are doing it. Whenever you feel like going off track, take a look at your board for support.

What is a positive quote about budgeting?

One of my personal favorite positive quotes about budgeting is “A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went” by Dave Ramsey. For me, it sums up why we put sustainability and budgeting first. Essentially, we need ot have a plan for our money, otherwise it will slip away.

What is a famous quote on budget?

Chances are, you know the lyric “Got my mind on my money, and my money on my mind” from Snoop Dogg. It may not be the most literary budgeting quote but it will stick in your head!

What is a catchphrase for budgeting?

If you’re looking for a short and sweet catchphrase about budgeting, here’s one of the best. “Save money, and money will save you!” by John Soforic. Why not write it somewhere you will see it every single day?

The post 10 Tips For How To Always Look Good Regardless Of Your Budget appeared first on Clever Girl Finance.

]]>

Let’s be honest: when we look good, we feel good (and vice versa). The desire to want to look good every day is by no means shallow. If we don’t feel good about how we look, we may not be able to act as our best selves. Today I’m sharing my top tips for how to always look good – without going over budget.

How to always look good

10 Tips for how to always look good

So, are you wondering how to look good everyday without spending hours in front of the mirror or dropping hundreds of dollars on a makeup or beauty haul? Looking good everyday doesn’t mean you have to spend hours of extra time on your appearance.

It also doesn’t mean you have to purchase new products or pay for services that only make you look good temporarily. These tips will teach you how to always look good with minimal time and effort by following some simple ideas!

1. Maintain good hygiene

It may sound silly, but maintaining good hygiene is especially relevant in our post-pandemic world. While many of us transitioned to working from home (at least temporarily), we may have realized that no one would notice if we didn’t shower every single day.

But you just can’t overestimate the power of a daily shower. Even if you spent the day working from your couch, a quick 5-minute shower will help you look and feel fresh and clean with minimal effort. And if you don’t wash your hair every day, a quick spritz of dry shampoo can leave you feeling refreshed and non-greasy.

Plus, your dry shampoo may even provide you with some extra volume and shine! Maintaining good hygiene is how I look good everyday personally without spending much money.

2. Iron your outfits

The difference between wrinkled clothes and ironed clothes is astounding. A wrinkled outfit can make it seem like you just rolled out of bed. A freshly ironed style uniform, however, can make you look polished and put together. If you find yourself rushing out the door every morning, take five minutes the night before to iron tomorrow’s outfit. You’ll be so glad you did!

Likewise, it’s time to switch out the sweatpants, even if you’re working from home. Wearing pajamas or sweatpants during the workday may have felt fun – even daring – for those first few weeks of social distancing. But wearing sweatpants day in and day out can take the pep out of your step.

If you absolutely cannot stomach the idea of jeans, try pairing a cute set of leggings with a comfy sweater or t-shirt! Or try relaxed trousers with button-downs or a blouse for an easy look. A casual yet chic outfit is how I look good everyday while working from home.

3. Follow a skincare routine

Glowing skin is a great way to look beautiful everyday! And you don’t need the latest-and-greatest line of skincare products from your favorite department store to achieve glowing skin. Instead, create a minimalist skincare regimen using basic, dermatologist-recommended products.

You may only need a cleanser, a moisturizer, and some sunscreen for a good skincare routine. If you’re fighting blemishes or your skin is extra dry or oily, you may also want to use a toner, serum, or medication to achieve the glowing skin you want! The most important thing is to stay consistent and give your skin the regular treatment it deserves.

4. Use makeup strategically

Having a signature makeup look is another tip for how to look good everyday! So, if you’re a girl who loves makeup, create a makeup routine that highlights your best features.

If you’re focused on looking great everyday, you do not need to overdo it with makeup. Just as with your skincare routine, focus on finding a minimal makeup routine that highlights your best features naturally.

Less is more when you’re balancing your makeup routine while trying to save time and money. Find basic products that don’t take you more than 10 minutes to apply each morning.

For example, you may only need a good foundation, concealer, bronzer, blush, one shade of eye shadow, mascara, and one lipstick or lipgloss for a final pop of color! You’ll be out the door in no time.

5. Smile often, smile wide!

Let your pearly whites shine through. Smiling makes you appear more attractive to others. Even more powerfully, smiling can actually make you feel better as well!

If you’re feeling down, try smiling at another person or just on your own if you’re by yourself. Although it may feel silly, a genuine smile can lift your mood and enhance your good looks.

6. Shop smarter, not harder

Wearing well-made clothes that fit your body type is an easy way to look good. But clothing can also be one of the most expensive items in your budget! The key is to shop smarter, not harder. It’s perfectly possible to look good while maintaining a minimalist wardrobe from minimalist fashion brands.

Focus on finding nice clothing that’s made to last and purchasing classic basics you can mix and match with other pieces in your wardrobe. It's also smart to know which fast fashion brands to avoid.

Clothing purchased from fast fashion manufacturers can quickly go out of style and doesn’t last very long anyway. Instead, try out minimal or capsule wardrobe basics and add fun jewelry and other accessories to create lots of great outfits. Being fashionable on a budget is how to look good everyday without breaking the bank!

7. Get a haircut that’s easy to style

If you have a haircut that requires 30 minutes or more to style every day, you may struggle to look and feel good on a consistent basis! For those mornings you just need to get out the door, a classic, easy-to-maintain haircut is your best friend. Many haircuts only require a quick straightening or freshening with the curling iron – and they look great!

So if you’re agonizing over your hair every morning, the problem may not be your hair. It might be your haircut! Discuss other options with your hairstylist the next time you see her – or find a new hairstylist if you’re consistently getting bad cuts. Having a classy hairstyle is how to always look good!

8. Take control of your body language

Body language says a lot about how we feel, and it can also improve how we look. You can easily improve how you look by paying attention to your posture and your body language. Sitting up straight makes you look more confident, whereas hunching over can make you look inadvertently insecure.

Additionally, keeping your arms uncrossed and in an open position can make you look more welcoming and receptive to others, as can a smile and an appropriate amount of eye contact. Paying attention to your body language is an easy way to make yourself instantly look good.

9. Stay hydrated

Drinking enough water is an essential part of how to look beautiful everyday! I cannot overstate this. When you’re hydrated, your skin is healthier. Drinking the correct amount of water can help keep your skin hydrated.

You’ll also see improvements in your complexion and pore size when your beautiful skin is hydrated. Staying hydrated is a healthy part of how to always look good.

10. Use sunscreen

Finally, protect your gorgeous skin from harmful UV rays by wearing sunscreen every day. Sunscreen keeps your skin healthy and free from premature aging, and it also protects you from skin cancer. It can act as an extra moisture boost as well! Finding a moisturizer or foundation with sunscreen is an easy way to protect your pretty face without adding an extra step to your routine.

You might also be able to swap out your regular body lotion with a lotion that contains sunscreen. Make sure to use SPF 30 or above. In sunnier months, you may want to increase your SPF for even more protection.

Expert tip

There are plenty of ways to be stylish without spending much or anything at all! Maintaining proper hygiene and simplifying your beauty routine can go a long way. When you want to look your best, keep things simple and choose high-quality style products when possible.

Is looking good everyday really that important?

The answer to this question depends on you. When I’m honest with myself, I know I perform better at work on days that I feel good about my looks, even if I'm working from home! I’m also more confident in my relationships when I feel beautiful.

Looking good every day opens us up to opportunities and possibilities. Research shows that people who look good are likely to be more successful. Perhaps it’s the extra confidence boost you get from looking good. Or maybe people are just more receptive to others who have put time and effort into their appearance.

While it may seem trivial, we can face real consequences when we don’t put effort into our appearance. We may act less confidently around others because we feel self-conscious.

In addition, studies show that how we feel about our looks can affect self-esteem.

Worst of all, we might miss out on opportunities we otherwise would have jumped on if we had felt good about ourselves and our looks. So with that in mind, consider speaking the truth to yourself about how important looking good all the time is to you.

How the pressure to always look good can be stressful

Of course, the pressure of figuring out how to always look good can cause stress in its own right. As women, we’re constantly bombarded with advertisements for different makeup products, expensive skincare routines, and luxury spa treatments. For many women, the pressure of looking good constantly can just be too much to handle.

The beauty industry works hard to tell us we’re not good enough. Our natural hair color isn’t good enough, we must have just the right amount of body hair (in exactly the right places), and our nails shouldn’t be seen unless they have a fresh manicure. These messages are harmful, and they’re not true.

We don’t have to spend a fortune, lose hours of our days and weeks, or undergo painful treatments to look good, and we certainly don’t need beauty marketers to tell us how to look beautiful every day!

We can look beautiful perfectly naturally by doing simple, inexpensive actions. These actions will help us look good, and they’ll help us feel good, too.

Why you don’t need to spend a fortune to look good everyday

You look your best when you’re happy, healthy, and put together, and you certainly don’t need to follow a specific beauty standard or look a certain way to look good. You will naturally look good when you feel good.

If you’re struggling with your mental wellness, it can be difficult to cover up your unhappiness with makeup. And attempting to do so can be harmful. Instead, taking action to make yourself feel better and addressing the true reasons for your unhappiness is the best way to move forward and naturally look good.

Likewise, you don’t have to change your body shape or completely redo your wardrobe to look good. When you emphasize your uniqueness and show off parts of yourself that make you feel beautiful, you’ll naturally look good.

How can you be stylish every day?

Knowing how to look beautiful every day usually just requires a bit of planning and good habits. In addition to paying attention to skincare each day, also remember to pick out an outfit the night before and plan your makeup and hair routine.

What is the easiest way to look more attractive?

Smile! When you're happy, you'll feel better about yourself, and smiling is an attractive quality.

Do you need to spend money to look good?

You can have great style without spending money. By simply using makeup, hair, and clothing products you already have and being sure to do extra things like drinking water, you will look fantastic without spending a dime.

30 day challenge ideas

Do you want to develop new habits that will help you improve your health, productivity, finances, or something else? If so, you’re not alone, and 30-day challenges can help.

But if you’ve ever tried to implement a new habit – such as going to the gym 3 days a week, meditating for 5 minutes a day, sticking to a budget, or even flossing your teeth every night – and failed, you know that implementing a new habit is easier said than done.

Our list of ideas can help you jumpstart your journey toward better habits!

What are 30-day challenges?

It's a month-long period in which you implement small, simple daily actions that can result in life-changing outcomes over the long term. 30-day challenges may be guided, or they may be self-directed.

Either way, they are fun and engaging. They are an excellent way to start and stick to the habits you want to build into your life.

So, whether you’re looking to take control of your finances, improve your physical health, begin a self-care regime, or spend more time learning a new skill, a 30-day challenge may be just the motivation you need to start your journey toward creating a long-lasting, fulfilling new habit.

Why 30-day challenges?

There are a few things we know about habit formation, one of which is that there is no “magic number” for how many days it takes for a new habit to stick.

In fact, research shows that it can take around 66 days for a habit to become automatic. This is often dependent on the type of habit you’re trying to implement.

While a challenge doesn’t guarantee you’ll reach the point where your habit becomes automatic, 30 days is a perfect amount of time to truly challenge yourself without feeling like it's too much.

Also if you do stick to your 30 days, you might find that your habit is now a normal part of your routine.

Tips for how to complete 30-day challenges successfully

Implementing a new habit isn’t easy. So you need to do everything you can to set yourself up for success.

Take small steps

Perhaps you’ve failed before because the habit you were trying to implement was too big of a change.

Or perhaps the habit itself was so unpleasant that just the thought of taking that action each day made you want to cry.

With that in mind, the actions you take in a 30-day challenge should be small and easily implemented into one of your existing daily routines.

Pair your new habit with something you enjoy

Additionally, you can make the action more attractive in some way so that even on days you don’t feel like it; you’ll be more likely to do the habit. In other words, add something you already enjoy to the action to make it more appealing.

For example, if your plan is to exercise more, allow yourself to watch a guilty pleasure TV show while you’re cycling on a stationary bike at the gym.

When you combine an activity you enjoy with the new habit you’re implementing; you’ll be more motivated to take the actions you’ve committed to.

Be patient with yourself

Finally, give yourself some grace by allowing for a 90% success rate rather than a 100% success rate. If you miss a day (or three) of your challenge, you’ll still have been 90% successful by the end of the month.

When you go for a success rate percentage rather than perfection, you take into account the fact that you’re human.

30-Day challenges: 28 of our favs!

To give you inspiration, I’ve created a list of 30 day challenge ideas that you can try below. Depending on your goals and in what ways you want to improve your life, you might like to try one of these challenges, or you might like to try multiple!

No matter what, remember to have fun! And don’t put too much pressure on yourself to make big changes all at once.

1. Self-love 30-day challenge

Self-love is a form of self-care that we don’t often think about. But it can be oh-so-important to our mental health and ability to reach our full potential.

When we take the time to attend to our own self-love, we’re actually more likely to be able to provide love and support to significant others, children, family members, and friends without feeling burnt out ourselves. Our 30-day self-love challenge can help!

2. Minimalism challenge

A minimalism challenge is for anyone who is feeling overwhelmed or frazzled – in any area of life!

Whether you want to declutter your home or declutter your mental space, this 30 day minimalism challenge will help you prioritize the most important things in your life while eliminating the things that are no longer serving you. If you need some motivation to declutter check out our tips!

3. Tidying-up challenge

Similar to the 30-day minimalism challenge, this 30-day tidying-up challenge targets the physical clutter hanging around your house.

The guided challenge helps you tackle one closet, one room, and one table-top at a time. So you can clean up problematic areas and then maintain that cleanliness for the long term.

4. Quitting a bad habit challenge

Habit formation isn’t always about implementing something new into your life. It can also be about pruning bad habits that are no longer serving you.

A 30-day quitting challenge targets a habit you want to kick to the curb, whether that’s nail-biting, smoking, drinking alcohol, or pressing the snooze button. Commit to quitting that habit for 30 days and see how you feel at the end of the challenge!

5. Sleep better challenge

If you’re like me, getting enough sleep every night is a challenge in and of itself! But we all know how important a good night of sleep is for our health and productivity levels.

A sleep challenge might help you commit to getting more sleep in a more intentional way.

For example, committing to a 10:00 pm bedtime for 30 days (even on the weekends!) can be a good way to get more sleep and implement a sustainable sleep routine.

6. Track your spending 30-day challenge

If you’re looking to get control of your finances, a 30-day track-your-spending challenge is a great way to ease into a financial reset.

With this challenge, the idea is not to try to make any changes to your spending or to control how you spend.

Instead, just commit to tracking your spending for 30 days. Tracking your spending allows you to gain insights into where your money goes each month.

It will help you make more informed savings decisions in the future. This is one of our favorite 30 day challenge ideas!

7. Savings challenge

I recommend trying a 30-day savings challenge only after you’ve been tracking your spending. Once you see where your money is going, you’re better prepared to choose a single savings category to target for your 30-day challenge.

The challenge requires you to only stop spending on one category for a month. For instance, eating out, clothing, alcohol, or something else. You could even combine this with a 30-day quitting challenge!

8. Master your overspending 30-day challenge

If you’re ready to level up, our master-your-overspending challenge, which is part of our free savings challenge bundle, asks you to only spend money on necessities for 30 days.

Before you dismiss this one as being too hard, give it a try! We guarantee you’ll be amazed at just how much money you can save when you intentionally refrain from spending on unnecessary items.

9. Meal planning challenge

Another component of our free savings challenge bundle is a meal planning challenge. (Buying lunch at work can cost you anywhere from $10–$20 a day).

If you’re trying to save money and eat more healthy foods, this meal-planning challenge can help you hit two birds with one stone!

10. Glow-up 30-day self care challenge

If you haven’t heard this term before, a glow-up is a positive transformation in your physical appearance, your mental health, or your emotional well-being.

Sometimes glow-ups happen naturally (like when you fall in love or you find out you’re pregnant). But other times you can intentionally plan a glow-up!

The 30-day glow-up challenge is the perfect way to enhance one or more areas of your life so that you can focus on yourself and feel your absolute best.

11. Social media cleanse

There’s no getting around it: social media is a time-suck. Not only that, our social media use may be contributing to mental health or mood issues, such as depression and loneliness. If you’re wanting to quit social media, start with a 30-day social media cleanse.

You might simply delete social media apps from your phone for 30 days, or you might deactivate your accounts entirely.

Enjoy the extra time you have to read, spend time with loved ones, practice a new or existing hobby, and take in your surroundings.

12. “Get outside” challenge

Whether you’re working from the office or from the comfort of your home, it can be tough to remember to go outside. But spending time in the great outdoors – whether in open spaces or simply in your backyard – may help to improve your mood.

Additionally, getting outside makes it more likely that you’ll exercise. With a “get outside” challenge, commit to going outside at least once every day for an entire month. You can go for a walk, explore a new hiking trail, or simply sit in the sun in your backyard.

30 Day Challenge Ideas 30 Day Challenge Ideas

13. Fitness challenge

Fitness challenges are great ways to improve your physical health and even feel better mentally. And fitness challenges don’t have to be difficult.

You can customize a fitness challenge to align with your goals and abilities, and the options are limitless. Find ideas for all kinds of fitness challenges here.

14. Gratitude challenge

Intentionally taking time to practice gratitude can make us happier and more appreciative of the people and things around us.

A gratitude challenge can ensure you’re constantly remembering all the things you have to be grateful for.

If you’re doing a gratitude challenge, I recommend writing one to five things you’re grateful for in a gratitude journal every morning or night. (Or anytime during the day that suits you).

If you’re really trying to challenge yourself, commit to journaling about different people or things you’re grateful for every day!

15. Reading challenge

Many of us wish we had more time to read. Luckily, you don’t have to commit to hours and hours of reading to enjoy the health and benefits reading can give us.

Make reading part of your daily routine. The challenge asks you to read 10 pages of a book a day or for 10 minutes per day. How much or how often you read each day is up to you!

16. Meditation challenge

Meditation brings clarity and focus to our lives, especially when we’re feeling busy, overwhelmed, and stressed. As stated above, 30-day challenges are meant to help you make small, simple changes to your life.

Therefore, start by committing to meditation for just five to ten minutes a day. Then try increasing your meditation time as the month goes on. If you’re not sure where to start, try a guided meditation challenge.

17. Wake up early challenge

Waking up earlier than usual for 30 days is a great self improvement challenge. Do whatever you want with this time, from reading while getting your daily caffeine, to exercising, to boosting your self confidence with positive affirmations.

As a bonus, having a morning routine will likely make you feel less rushed on your way to work, and throughout your day, because you'll have more time to plan and stay organized.

18. Journaling challenge

Journaling is a healthy way to work on personal growth, as well as deal with negative thoughts or feelings of anxiety. Committing to a 30-day journaling challenge where you sit down to journal every day can help.

You can decide you'll write for a specific time, like five or ten minutes, or just commit to journaling every day without time restrictions.

You can also make the journal into whatever you want, be it a food journal, one that you fill with positive affirmations, or just a place to write about your day. But regardless, you're likely to notice a difference in how you feel!

19. Eat healthy challenge

If you truly want to stick to healthy eating with more consistency, try a 30-day eat-healthy challenge. You can decide the menu, whether you prefer Whole 30, clean eating, or just want to add more fruit and vegetables to your diet.

At the end of the 30 days, notice how you feel. It might be just the push needed to continue with your healthy eating aspirations on a regular basis.

20. New hobby challenge

Do you feel like you need more time for creativity in your life? Starting a new hobby could be just what you need!

Whether you want to write a poem or two, start a blog, begin a side hustle, learn a new language, or make crafts, find something you enjoy and want to commit to working on for 30 days.

You can choose whether you work on your hobby for 20 minutes or an hour, whatever time you have. This is a fun challenge that can help you discover new ideas.

21. Affirmations challenge

Do you want to add more positivity to your vocabulary? Trying a positive affirmations challenge can be the perfect thing.

Take the time each day to say some positive affirmations that you choose. You may want to do this at a set time each day, to make the habit easier. Using new words like "peace" or "great" can lift your mood and even change how you think!

22. Spend more time with family and friends challenge

Sometimes with work, meetings, hobbies, and other time-consuming activities, you may find that the time you spend with family and with friends is lacking. For this 30 day challenge, make a commitment to spend more time with the people that matter most.

For example, you might decide to spend an extra 20 minutes of quality time with your family each day. Or maybe you'll vow to get together with your friends for lunch once a week. Whatever you choose, you'll improve your relationships for the better.

23. Invest $10 a day challenge

Think that you don't have enough money to invest? You probably do! While this $ 10-a-day challenge isn't easy, it's possible.

You can substitute whatever amount fits your budget for this challenge. If you want to invest a larger amount, try taking on a side hustle or selling some things to get the money you need. You can also try to purchase fewer items to make room in your budget.

At the end of the 30 days, if you stick with the $10 a day, you'll have $300 to invest, or more if you want!

24. Give up sugar for 30 days challenge

A tough challenge, but it has a lot of health benefits. Give up sugar for 30 days! Mark your calendar and get ready - there is sugar in a lot more foods than you might think.

Be sure to plan out meals and grocery shopping in advance, and have snacks prepped to curb any cravings. While this isn't an easy challenge, you'll feel like a boss by the end of it!

25. Use a slow cooker for 30 days challenge

Using a slow cooker can help you get creative with your meal-planning routine. Looking on the internet for recipes is a great resource, and it's a great way to be consistent with eating meals at home instead of ordering or going to restaurants.

So every day for 30 days, make a slow cooker meal. You may even be able to prep all of these in advance and not have to cook for an entire month!

26. Pomodoro technique challenge for time management

Do you struggle with time management? The Pomodoro method helps you focus by allowing you to work in 25 or 50-minute intervals with a timer.

You can use this for work, chores, and also anything where time feels like a struggle. Do this for 30 days and see how much more productive you feel!

27. Laugh more challenge

Sometimes life can feel too serious. So instead of worrying or letting things get you down, take a challenge to laugh more, and focus on happiness.

Laugh every day for 30 days. Watch a hilarious movie, notice things around you that are funny, or go see a comedy show. Laughter has so many health benefits, you'll be happy you did this challenge!

28. Drink water challenge

Everyone has heard this - drink more water! But this challenge will ensure that you stay hydrated by drinking the correct amount of cups of water per day.

Commit to drinking your recommended amount of water for 30 days straight. Notice how much better you feel when you do!

Change your life for the better with one of these 30 day challenge ideas

Hopefully, one or more of these 30-day challenges sounds both exciting and doable as you continue your never-ending journey of self-growth, development, and improvement.

If you find yourself wanting to try all the challenges, I recommend choosing just one or two challenges a month at a time.

If you try to implement too many challenges at once, you’re more likely to get overwhelmed and stop doing one or all of your challenges before the end of the 30 days.

So whatever challenge you choose, write down why you’re doing that challenge and how you hope to feel at the end of the 30 days. Make your daily actions small, simple, and easily implementable into your existing routines.

And if you’re struggling to figure out where to start, try creating a plan for personal development. Doing this will help you prioritize your 30-day challenges and deeply understand why you’re committing to the habits you’ve chosen!

8 Lessons In Leadership For Ambitious Women https://www.clevergirlfinance.com/lessons-in-leadership/ Sat, 29 Jan 2022 11:44:08 +0000 https://www.clevergirlfinance.com/?p=17061 […]

Lessons in leadership

Women may still not hold as many leadership positions as men, but our numbers are climbing. More women join the ranks of CEOs, members of Congress, and supervisors each year. Therefore, opportunities abound for women to learn lessons in leadership from others just like them.

Women are just as capable of excelling in leadership positions as men. They show just as much ability (or more) in key leadership traits such as intelligence, innovation, and resilience.

But as all good leaders know, leaders are constantly learning about ways to better themselves. Leadership lessons help leaders improve their teams and the organizations they lead.

What are lessons in leadership?

We can find lessons in leadership by studying the skills and traits of great leaders who have come before us.

Most leaders must be creative problem solvers and accustomed to thinking outside the box. But all leaders can benefit from leadership lessons learned from those who have already been there.

There’s no need to reinvent the wheel as a leader. The problems you face in your own organization may be very different from problems solved by others. But learning what other leaders have done can provide you with wisdom and inspiration.

The stakes of poor leadership are high. Poor leaders risk the disintegration of their organizations. They risk a toxic work environment and unhappy team members. And of course, they risk their ability to create a lasting legacy that inspires others for years to come.

All leaders who are committed to greatness can benefit from lessons in leadership.

Why are lessons in leadership especially important for women?

Lessons in leadership may be important for all aspiring leaders. But they’re especially important for women. Women face many obstacles to leadership that men simply do not. Leadership lessons learned by other women can help new female leaders overcome those challenges.

Sexism continues to harm women in the workplace. Ongoing sexism in the workplace is dangerous and damaging to women's career prospects. Similarly, social conditioning teaches women to be less assertive and demanding. Both these qualities are necessary for strong leadership.

Women have traditionally been excluded from leadership roles, so they often have to work harder to achieve those positions now. They're also under closer review by their male coworkers to be good leaders.

For these reasons, women can benefit from lessons in leadership. Leadership lessons learned from other women can provide ideas, inspiration, strength, and resilience.

8 Key lessons in leadership for women in business and their careers

Women can leverage lessons on leadership to invest in their people, their organizations, and invest themselves. Below are 8 leadership lessons all women leaders can benefit from based on impactful quotes by key women in leadership positions!

1. Prioritize a team mindset

“Leadership is about the team—the culture they keep and embrace. It’s about empathy for your customers, clients, employees, and the communities where you do business. It’s about doing the right thing for the right reasons, being confident enough to take risks and responsible enough to think of those who your decisions and risks may affect.”— Kat Cole (Former COO & President of FOCUS Brands)

Successful leaders don’t put themselves first. They put their teams first. They rarely think in terms of “I,” but instead in terms of “we.”

And good leaders know they have many “teams” to think about. They have a team of employees to manage, grow, and inspire. They also have their teams of customers or constituents to serve well.

Great leaders know that investing in their teams allows them to reach goals that would otherwise be out of reach. Prioritizing a team mindset is perhaps one of the most valuable leadership lessons learned.

2. Develop others

“I’ve always subscribed to the belief that the best leader is not one who has the most followers, but one who creates the most leaders. I strive every day—to create more conscious, confident, and soulful leaders who, in return, will build a better world for all.”— Stephanie Courtillier (Founder, Integrous Women)

“Magic happens when you connect people. I credit much of my success to truly getting to know people and helping them whenever I can. It’s become the backbone of our firm’s success. Women founders are often highly skilled at making connections that can help advance their businesses.”— Susan Macpherson (Founder & CEO, McPherson Strategies)

As Susan Macpherson said, women leaders are good at developing others and helping others to grow. This should be the goal of every good leader.

Many people who end up becoming great leaders start with little or no experience. In fact, one of the most successful women leaders of all time, Oprah Winfrey, got her start by working at a local radio station. The station managers at her first radio station were impressed by her passion and helped her work up to bigger roles at larger stations.

Good leaders should never seek to keep their team members stuck. This is not inspiring leadership. Leaders who don’t develop their teams risk losing valuable members to other organizations that will develop them. Developing others is another important lesson on leadership.

3. Take criticism as feedback

“Take criticism seriously, but not personally. If there is truth or merit in the criticism, try to learn from it. Otherwise, let it roll right off you.”— Hillary Clinton (American Politician)

Hillary Clinton is probably one of the most widely criticized women leaders in the world. But Hillary has made some extraordinary accomplishments for at-risk and underserved populations. And she offers a great lesson in leadership about how to take criticism.

Criticism can be tough to swallow. But being able to take criticism is an essential part of being a leader. Criticism often contains valuable feedback leaders can use to grow and improve. Criticism will likely be a fact of life for every leader. Taking criticism well is an important leadership lesson learned.

4. Learn from your team

“It’s okay to admit what you don’t know. It’s okay to ask for help. And it’s more than okay to listen to the people you lead. In fact, it’s essential.”— Mary Barra (CEO, General Motors)

“Great leaders find people who are best at different things and get them all on the same team.”— Eileen Bistrisky (President & CEO, Effective Leadership Consulting)

A good leader knows when to rely on her own expertise. She also knows when she can benefit from the expertise of others. Team members who feel comfortable sharing their expertise can come up with even more creative and innovative ideas.

Additionally, team members can tell when they're valued. Members who know their contributions are valuable are more invested in the outcomes for the organization. Leaders who allow space for team members to shine end up inspiring others to grow and reach new heights. This lesson in leadership can help women leaders reach new heights.

5. Keep your team focused

“People respond well to those that are sure of what they want.”— Anna Wintour (Editor-in-Chief, Vogue)

A distracted team is not effective. Neither is a team that doesn't know its objectives. Great leaders excel in keeping their teams focused on the most important tasks.

Likewise, leaders should ensure that they have the right people working on the right tasks. If team members are working on tasks unsuited to them, the whole team can lose momentum. It’s a good leader’s job to delegate properly so the team can do its best work.

6. Care for your team members as whole people

“Success isn’t about how much money you make. It’s about the difference you make in people’s lives.”— Michelle Obama (Former First Lady of the United States)

Poor leaders drive their team members to work harder with only the organization’s goals in mind. Yes, it’s important for leaders to keep their teams focused and inspire them to work hard. But good leaders should remember that their teams consist of people with struggles and motivations of their own.

Great leaders remember to treat their team members as whole people. They recognize that the people working for them are not robots. Leaders who show genuine care for their team encourage the best efforts. This lesson in leadership inspires team members to do their best because they want to.

7. Seek to inspire

“Leadership is hard to define and good leadership even harder. But if you can get people to follow you to the ends of the earth, you are a great leader.”— Indra Nooyi (Former Chairman & CEO of PepsiCo)

“A good leader is able to paint a picture of a vision for the future and then enlist others to go on the journey with her. A truly conscious leader recognizes that it is not about her, but that the team is looking to her for inspiration and direction. Keeping her ego in check is essential.”—Tamra Ryan (CEO, Women’s Bean Project)

Truly excellent leaders are inspirational. Leaders like Michelle Obama, Oprah Winfrey, and Malala Yousafzai have all inspired people all over the world.

These leaders weren’t born knowing how they were going to influence the world. They all came from modest backgrounds. Throughout their lives, they grew to be inspirational leaders over time. Every female leader has an opportunity to inspire just as deeply as they have.

8. Learn continuously

"Continuous learning leads to continuous improvement. Commit yourself to advancing your knowledge, skills, and expertise. Be a lifelong student."—Pamela Gill Alabaster (Head of Global Sustainability at Mattel, Inc.)

Leaders don’t suddenly reach a certain point of success or knowledge before they start leading. Instead, they trust they’ll figure things out as they go along. Great leaders know they need to continue learning and growing throughout their lives.

Great leaders also know that self-discovery and self-improvement are lifelong efforts. Learning to improve emotional intelligence is a hallmark of excellent leaders.

Resources for lessons in leadership

We live in an age where lessons on leadership are literally at our fingertips.

Reading books is one of the best ways to learn about leadership. Reading can help you make stronger connections between things you learn. It can also help you gain deeper insight into yourself.

Leadership podcasts are great for women who prefer listening over reading. You can plug into a podcast while commuting or exercising instead of listening to the same old playlists! Use your time to invest in your growth and self-development.

Finally, find a mentor or group of mentors to help you in your journey to leadership. Mentors are like coaches who can provide you with helpful insights and feedback. You can ask your mentor specific questions and learn from their real-life experiences.

Consider joining an in-person or local networking group to find a mentor who can help you. You may also be able to find a mentor at work!

Use these lessons in leadership to become a successful leader!

Lessons in leadership will always benefit you. Being an excellent leader is a lifelong growth process. The leadership lessons you learn will build on each other throughout your life.

Great leaders today may seem like they were simply born that way. But the truth is, they all started somewhere. Every journey into leadership begins with small daily actions and habits. By starting these lessons on leadership, you're well on your way to being a successful leader!

5 Great Ideas For Tracking Savings https://www.clevergirlfinance.com/tracking-savings/ Mon, 17 Jan 2022 17:52:46 +0000 https://www.clevergirlfinance.com/?p=16771 […]

Tracking savings

If you have goals in your life (and we sincerely hope you do!), you need a plan for how you’re going to reach those goals. You also need a way to measure your progress. For financial goals, the best way to measure your progress is by tracking savings.

Your savings goals may include things like saving for:

Whether you have one major savings goal this year or many, a fun savings tracker is essential to making sure you achieve your goals. In fact, tracking savings consistently makes saving money that much easier.

Why should you want to start tracking savings?

Organized finances

Tracking your savings can help you stay organized. By tracking your savings, you’ll know exactly how close you are to reaching your goal at all times.

You’ll be able to estimate how much more time it will take to reach the goal. And you’ll know immediately if you’re not making as much progress toward your goal as you’d like.

Motivation

It can also be incredibly motivating. When you see a visual representation of your progress, you’ll be more motivated to keep going. (After all, if you can’t see your progress, you may not realize you’re making progress at all.)

Tracking your progress can also help you stay focused and keep your goals top of mind when it becomes necessary to make sacrifices.

Awareness of your spending habits

And finally, tracking savings can allow you to adjust your spending habits, your savings rate, or your goals as needed.

The truth is, you may experience changes to your finances as you’re trying to reach your goal. Sometimes these things are unavoidable, such as the effects of inflation on your budget.

Sometimes, all you can do is notice when these things are happening and adjust your plan as best you can. But if you’re not tracking your savings, you may not know when it’s time to make adjustments.

For changes that are in your control, there are plenty of things you can do to still make progress toward your goal. You may want to pay more attention to your spending to see where you can cut back. Or you may want to brainstorm ways to increase your income so you can save more.

Ultimately, tracking savings gives you power. Using a fun savings tracker such as one of the ones listed below can help you reach your goals faster and stay focused on what’s most important to you.

What are some fun savings trackers to use?

There are lots of fun ways to track your savings! Peruse the options below to get a sense of which fun tracker is most appealing to you—and which one you’ll be most likely to stick with for the next few weeks, months, or years!

Ideas for tracking savings

1. Spreadsheets

Spreadsheets may be an old-school way of tracking savings, but they can still be incredibly effective. All you have to do is open an Excel or Google Sheets file, write down your goal, and pop in your progress every time you make a transfer to your savings account.

You could also transfer your savings to a dedicated savings club account. (If you’re saving physical cash in an envelope, jar, or something else, the spreadsheet will work just as well!)

You can create a savings tracker spreadsheet complete with simple equations or use a pre-designed spreadsheet template to make tracking in a spreadsheet even easier.

You get to decide if you prefer to use just one spreadsheet to track all your personal finances, or if you’d like to separate your savings goals into multiple spreadsheets.

2. Budgeting apps

Budgeting apps are also a great way to track your savings. Most budgeting apps today will automatically import your transactions when you link your bank account(s), so you can kiss the days of manual importing goodbye!

Some budgeting apps are free, while others charge a low monthly fee to access all their features.

The best budgeting app for you may depend on how you like to budget your money or how hands-on you’d like your budget to be. Check out our post "7 Of The Best Budget Templates And Tools" for the best budgeting apps to try!

3. Worksheets

Worksheets are another fun savings tracker that might appeal to you more than a spreadsheet or app. You can use worksheets digitally or print them out if you prefer to handwrite your progress.

Clever Girl Finance offers budgeting worksheets as both printable and spreadsheet versions. Grab your free budget worksheet here to get started!

4. Planners

If you’re a journaler, a monthly budget planner might be the fun savings tracker for you! A budget planner allows you to keep track of your savings alongside everything else in your life: important dates, journal entries, non-financial goals, and more.

The planner you choose doesn’t have to specifically revolve around finances, but it should include pages for comprehensive budgeting.

A good budget planner can make keeping track of your savings feel more holistic. It can also remind you how the progress you’re making is getting you closer to the life you want.

5. Savings tracker printables

Finally, a savings tracker printable might be the easiest and (arguably) the most fun savings tracker out there. A printable savings tracker is typically a one-page sheet that allows you to visualize your progress toward your goal.

The visual on the savings tracker printable may consist of a generic image, such as a coin jar or thermometer. Or it might depict an image that is related to your goal, such as a wedding cake for a wedding fund or a Christmas tree for a holiday gift fund. As you make progress, you can color in different levels on the printable.

A savings tracker printable can be particularly motivating. It allows you to tap into your artistic side while giving you a simple, colorful way to track your progress.

While there are some printables available for purchase, free printable savings trackers are widely available on the internet. Here are some of our favorite free printable savings trackers.

Let’s Craft Instead

Let’s Craft Instead offers 15 totally free printable savings trackers. In addition to various savings jars and money bags, there are options to find savings trackers that are customized to your particular goal.

For example, she has a cute house savings tracker that will let you see your progress toward saving for a down payment.

101planners.com

The free printable savings trackers from 101planners.com are so cute! In addition to different visuals such as money jars, thermometers, and even an adorable honeybee design, you can customize different backgrounds for the savings tracker you choose. You can also add “accessories” to your savings tracker printable like flower crowns or borders.

A Cultivated Nest

A Cultivated Nest provides 10 free printable savings trackers to choose from. There are options for different numerical goals ranging from a $1,000 emergency fund to a $10,000 money challenge.

They also have theme-specific options such as a string of Christmas lights for a Christmas gift fund and a Mickey-shaped visual for a vacation to Disney World.

What fun savings tracker is best for you?

When it comes to tracking savings, the most important thing is to choose a savings tracker that you’ll want to stick with for the long term until you reach your savings goal. Use the following questions to help you decide which one you should use:

Hopefully, the answers to these questions will help you narrow down to the right savings tracker that will help you reach your goals. Above all, choose one that will be fun for you to use and one that you’ll remember to update often.

Where to put your savings tracker

Whatever savings tracker you choose, make sure to post it in an area you’ll see often. This will help you keep your goal top of mind, which is important as you’ll inevitably be faced with temptations that could derail you. Additionally, watching your progress increase will be incredibly motivating.

If you’re using a free printable savings tracker, post it on your fridge or bathroom mirror to remind you of your progress every morning!

If you’re using an online spreadsheet, add it to your bookmarks bar, so you remember to open it often. And if you’re using a planner, keep your planner on your bedside table so you make sure to update every morning or night.

Reach your goals by tracking your savings!

Tracking your savings is the best way to ensure you reach your goals. If you’re not tracking your savings, you risk losing focus and motivation.

You have to stay on top of your progress to know how close you are to reaching your goals. So, try these great ideas to help you stay inspired to save more money!

How Much Is 10 Figures Really? https://www.clevergirlfinance.com/how-much-is-10-figures/ Fri, 17 Dec 2021 20:27:28 +0000 https://www.clevergirlfinance.com/?p=16266 […]

The post How Much Is 10 Figures Really? appeared first on Clever Girl Finance.

]]>

10 figure salary

You may have heard of 5 figure, 6 figure, and even 7 figure salaries, but what about a 10 figure salary? A salary this high may be rare, but it’s not unheard of. As technology advances and world economies bloom, more and more people are earning 10 figures or attaining a 10 figure net worth.

So how much is 10 figures really? Let’s dive in on who can earn this much and what kind of job you would need. Only the ones who have achieved the 10 figure milestone really know what it’s like to earn this amount of money. However, this kind of lifestyle is theoretically available to anyone.

What the term “figure” means for salaries

You may have heard an entrepreneur say they had their “first 5 figure month” or a relative boast about their son’s “6 figure salary” job right out of college. But you may be wondering what they mean by the term figure. Figure simply refers to the number of digits in a number. For example, the number 1,302 has four digits (or four figures): 1, 3, 0, and 2.

With that in mind, a 5 figure month could be anywhere from $10,000 to $99,999. A 6 figure salary could mean anywhere from $100,000 to $999,999.

While these may seem like a lot of money, many people are finding ways to earn 7 figures or higher with high-paying jobs or successful small businesses. Some of the most successful businesses have earned their CEOs a 10 figure salary.

How much is a 10 figure salary?

So, how much is 10 figures? Well, 6 figures mean you’ve earned a salary in the hundreds of thousands. 7 figures mean you’ve earned a salary of one million dollars or more.

Anyone with a 7 figure salary or a 7 figure net worth is considered a millionaire. An individual who earns 10 figures, or who has a 10 figure net worth, is considered a billionaire. (These are all high incomes!)

Although the millionaire status used to be considered very rich, rising inflation means that most millionaires don’t live as richly as they used to. Most millionaires still have to be careful about the money they spend.

If they’re retired and need their money to provide financial independence for years or even decades, they have to be even more careful.

Billionaires, on the other hand, don’t have to worry much about finances. Billionaires can afford to live in enormous, expensive mansions. They can also afford to hire serving staff to take care of their every need.

And for billionaires, spending $1,000 on a dinner for two might be no more alarming than if the average person spent $1 on a pack of gum.

Who can earn 10 figures?

While earning 10 figures is very rare for the average person, extremely successful business owners and other influencers can earn this much in a year or over several years.

In fact, many women who have become billionaires started from nothing and are entirely self-made, including Oprah Winfrey and Sarah Blakely.

Hypothetically, anyone can become a billionaire! Most billionaires are made as a result of a lifetime of good business and investment decisions. Becoming a billionaire really starts with good business intuition, creativity and innovation, and a solid foundation of financial literacy.

Examples of women that make a 10 figure salary

Earning 10 figures isn't impossible! Here are a few examples of women who have earned 10 figures to give you a little inspiration.

Oprah Winfrey

One of the most successful 10 figure women is Oprah Winfrey. Oprah, who has a $3.5 billion net worth, grew up in poverty as a child of a single mom.

She got her start as a successful talk show host. As her popularity grew, she scaled her talk show into a media and business empire. Her empire ultimately resulted in her own cable network, OWN.

Diane Hendricks

Another successful woman who earns a 10 figure salary is Diane Hendricks. She co-founded a building materials distribution company with her husband in 1982.

Since his death in 2007, she has successfully chaired the business to earn over $9 billion in sales. She is one of the most successful businesswomen in the United States.

Marian Ilitch

Likewise, Marian Ilitch, another 10 figure earner, is the owner of Little Caesar’s pizza, which boasts more than $4 billion in annual sales each year. She also owns the Detroit Red Wings and MotorCity Casino Hotel and is building a $1.2 billion sports and entertainment district in Detroit.

Judy Faulkner

Judy Faulkner, whose net worth is $6.6 billion, is the CEO of the leading medical-record software company in the US, Epic. Her software is used by top medical centers in the United States, including Johns Hopkins and the Mayo Clinic.

Sarah Blakely

You can thank Sarah Blakely for the epic invention of Spanx! She went from selling fax machines to selling leggings, maternity clothing, undergarments, and swimwear to over 50 countries.

Her net worth is now a whopping $1.2 billion. In 2012 she was listed on Time's 100 as one of the most influential people in the world.

Sheila Johnson

Sheila Crump Johnson is the CEO of Salamander Hotels and Resorts, the co-founder of BET and she is the first African-American woman to be an owner/partner in three professional sports franchises.

These franchises are WNBA's Washington Mystics, NBA's Washington Wizards, and NHL's Washington Capitals. She was also the first African-American woman to reach a billion-dollar net worth!

Although most billionaires today are men, these women and others like them show just how possible it is for women to successfully earn 10 figures, too.

Top ways to earn 10 figures

Even though earning 10 figures is difficult, there are a few paths to becoming a billionaire. Some of the top ways to become a billionaire are entrepreneurship, influencer stardom, authorship, and investing.

If earning 10 figures is one of your dreams, it may take some time to get there. But even the smallest steps can result in the most audacious results!

1. Entrepreneurship

Entrepreneurship is the most common path to earning 10 figures. You’re unlikely to earn 10 figures working for someone else, but there is no ceiling to how much you can earn as a successful business owner. Most successful 10 figure entrepreneurs share some common traits, some of which include:

 • Drive
 • Determination
 • Emotional intelligence
 • Creative thinking
 • Self-confidence
 • Intuition

As seen above, billionaire women have been successful business owners in all kinds of industries. Many kinds of businesses can generate 10 figures for their owners. For instance, franchise restaurants, clothing companies, software technology, etc.

Some of the most successful billionaires have made their fortunes by starting innovative technology companies. If earning a 10 figure salary is one of your goals, you may want to increase your skills in software development or engineering to start a company in this industry.

2. Influential Media Stardom

Media stars such as singers, talk show hosts, internet celebrities, and actors that are very influential may also be able to earn a 10 figure salary. However, influential media stars are only likely to become billionaires if they can leverage their star status into building successful businesses of their own.

For example, Kylie Jenner gained her following from the popular reality television series Keeping Up With the Kardashians. In 2019, she was dubbed the world’s youngest “self-made” billionaire due to the success of her company, Kylie Cosmetics. She showed the world that earning 10 figures is indeed possible for influential stars.

3. Authorship

One of the richest authors in the world is Elisabeth Badinter. She has an impressive net worth of $1.65 billion. Part of Elisabeth Badinter's net worth can be attributed to her inheritance. However, her success as a feminist writer has also contributed to her 10 figure net worth.

Of course, a big part of earning 10 figures as an author is having merchandising rights and earning from products that were inspired by your book. For instance, toys, clothing, stationary, etc. that stem from the author's book. This is why it's important to understand the details of a book deal before you sign on the dotted line.

So if you have dreams of becoming a successful author who earns a 10 figure salary, start writing! You never what kind of success your stories will result in.

4. Investing

Although investing by itself may not be enough to earn you a 10 figure salary, it's an important component of any billionaire's journey. Having a sound investment strategy to grow and protect your wealth is essential.

Most billionaires are savvy investors who recognize a good investment from a bad one. Also, having a diverse portfolio is a crucial part of successful investing.

Total wellbeing

Are you constantly putting yourself on the backburner and feeling a bit run down? Have you heard of a total wellbeing plan? Not yet?

Well, stay tuned, my friend, because what I’m sharing with you today is a plan to overhaul your entire sense of wellbeing in all the most important areas of your life. This plan will help you learn how to get your life back in balance and improve your overall wellbeing!

What is a total wellbeing plan?

Total wellbeing means that you feel fulfilled in all aspects of your life. In other words, it is your positive experience of holistic good health and happiness in your day-to-day life. It also means you maintain a healthy balance of self-love, social connections, and engagement with your surroundings.

As a result, a total wellbeing plan is an intentional program for daily actions to improve your sense of wellbeing. Here at Clever Girl Finance, we've put together a total wellbeing plan that encompasses seven areas of your life:

 1. Mindset
 2. Physical health
 3. Mental health
 4. Relationships and social health
 5. Finances
 6. Beauty and self-care
 7. Sleep

When you focus on wellbeing in one of these areas, your wellbeing in the other areas of your life should naturally improve as well. So when you focus on multiple aspects of your wellbeing, the better you’ll feel as a whole.

Why is a plan for your total wellbeing important?

Think back to periods of your life when you felt good – you may have felt strong, confident, well-rested, or fulfilled. What was going well in your life?

Most likely, it was a combination of multiple things. When you’re feeling well in one area of your life, that wellness spills over into other areas of your life. (And vice versa, when you’re feeling down in the dumps.)

Taking care of all aspects of your life with a total wellbeing plan can result in your ability to feel fulfilled on a daily basis. This is especially important if you have a demanding career or lifestyle, are a busy mom, or are an entrepreneur struggling with self-care.

Experiencing the benefits of total wellbeing doesn’t have to depend on external factors. A total wellbeing plan helps you take control of your happiness no matter what’s going on around you.

How to create a total wellbeing plan

The most important thing about your total wellbeing plan is that it's unique to you. The following list contains ideas for how to incorporate seven major components of your life into a total wellbeing plan. The specific actions you take are entirely customizable.

1. Maintain a positive mindset

The first step to creating a total wellbeing plan is to get control of your mindset. Your mindset is ultimately responsible for most other actions - big or small - that you take on daily. Unfortunately, the human brain is hardwired to develop a negative mindset because it’s trying to protect us from external dangers.

The good news is that we can control our mindset. With a little intentionality, we can develop a positive mindset that keeps us open to opportunities. A positive mindset makes it easier to feel motivated to take positive actions every day.

There are many things you can do to develop a healthy mindset. Some people focus on identifying and journaling about their limiting beliefs to overcome them. Other people believe in the power of affirmations to change their self-talk and set themselves up for daily success.

However you cultivate a positive mindset, remember that starting with mindset is key to sticking with your total wellbeing plan.

2. Improve your physical health

Next, your physical health is an essential component of your total wellbeing. Taking care of your physical health isn’t just (or even at all) about losing weight.

Rather, it’s about taking good care of your body, so you feel physically well. Good physical health also decreases your susceptibility to illness and disease.

There are two primary components of your physical wellness: diet and physical fitness. Again, taking care of your physical self is not about what your body looks like. It’s about feeling energized and healthy so that you can wake up each day operating at peak performance.

Eat a healthy diet

In terms of diet, it’s essential to eat fresh, healthy foods that provide your body with the nutrients and energy you need. Eating the right foods helps you be productive throughout the day.

And even though losing weight isn’t the end goal, eating healthy foods can naturally help you maintain a healthy weight for your body type. You can make eating healthier easier by meal prepping each week or month. This way you have nutritious meals and snacks already prepared.

Get plenty of exercise

Likewise, physical fitness is also important to keep your body strong and healthy. There are many ways to engage in physical fitness activities that you actually enjoy. Unless you genuinely love going to the gym, I do not recommend torturing yourself day in and day out sweating in a gym.

Instead, find a physical fitness activity that brings you joy. Perhaps your physical fitness routine looks like walking in your neighborhood or riding your bike to work.

If you love swimming, join a community recreation center with a pool. If you like rollerblading, buy a pair of rollerblades! Or, try one of these 15 workout ideas for people who hate exercise.

Create a diet and physical fitness plan that works for you and your lifestyle. It doesn’t matter what you do. It just matters that you’re doing something to care for your physical health as part of your total wellbeing.

3. Mind your mental health

Of course, it’s just as critical to take care of your mental health when it comes to total wellbeing. Taking care of your mental health allows you to operate at full potential at work, in your relationships, and when you’re by yourself. Just like with physical health, there are myriad ways to take care of your mental health.

For most people, a sustainable work-life balance is one of the best ways to care for yourself mentally. If you have a terrible work-life balance, there’s only so much you can do to control it yourself. Until you can find a long-term solution, consider talking with your boss or coworkers to create as much balance as possible.

Other ways to take care of your mental health might include talking with a therapist, setting boundaries, maintaining your social connections, or checking in with yourself regularly through journaling, meditation, or prayer.

As with other components of your total wellbeing plan, how you take care of yourself mentally and improve your mental space is unique to you.

4. Improve your relationships and social health

Positive relationships and healthy social connections are a huge component of total wellbeing. It’s no secret that spending quality time with loved ones is good for our total wellbeing. Good social health can also positively impact other areas of our lives, such as physical health and mental health.

To optimize the time you spend with loved ones, create a plan for how you want to spend that time. Perhaps you want to minimize the presence of phones and screens so you can more intentionally focus on each other. Or you can plan special activities that foster the opportunity for intimate conversations.

But of course, managing social relationships can be stressful, too. Spending time with unhealthy people can negatively influence your total wellbeing. If you find that any of your loved ones have a destructive impact on your mental health, it may be time to implement boundaries with those people in your life.

Ultimately, you have the power to decide how you want to be treated in close relationships. Although setting boundaries can be challenging, your total wellbeing is of utmost importance.

5. Take control of your finances

Financial health both influences and is influenced by wellbeing in the other six areas of your life. Cultivating healthy financial habits makes it easier to take care of your physical health, mental health, and even social health.

Although managing finances can be stressful, poor financial health can easily crumble your total wellbeing plan. Financial wellbeing may look different for everyone. But good financial health typically involves budgeting, knowing where you stand financially, and being able to cover unexpected expenses as they arise.

To help you develop financial wellbeing, start with our completely free "Build a solid foundation bundle" to transform your money mindset. This free course bundle will also help you organize your finances, create the right financial goals, and follow a budget that works.

6. Establish a beauty and self-care routine

Beauty and self-care health is another vital part of your total wellbeing. Just as physical health is about much more than losing weight, beauty and self-care health is about developing habits that make you feel good – not just in the moment – but over the long term.

Beauty and self-care routines are often much more than bubble baths and face peels. Those things are nice and may work well for you, but self-care might also look like:

 • Working on your mindset
 • Building in time to exercise
 • Regularly updating your budget
 • Setting healthy boundaries
 • Avoiding unhealthy foods and substances
 • Giving your body enough rest

Of course, beauty health might also involve your skincare and makeup routines. To align your beauty routine with your total wellbeing, focus on purchasing products that make you feel good. That might involve budgeting for luxurious products and avoiding unplanned makeup and beauty hauls. Or it might involve practicing a minimalist skincare routine to cut back on costs.

You can also align your beauty routine with other closely-held values, such as only purchasing beauty products that are sustainable or cruelty-free. As with all parts of your total wellbeing plan, your beauty and self-care routine should be unique to you.

7. Get quality sleep

Finally, getting enough sleep is one of the most important things you can do for your total wellbeing. You need a sleep routine that fosters healthy sleep. And you need a sleep schedule that allows you to get the right amount of sleep for optimal energy.

One best practice is to put your phone and other screens away before bed. LED screens emit light that wakes our brains up. Our phones also contain distractions that stimulate our brains into wakefulness. Looking at screens too close to bedtime does not foster healthy sleep.

Instead, use the 30 minutes you have before bed to do something calming. Practice self-care, journal, meditate, read a good book, or do something else that’s relaxing or soothing.

How to stick with your total wellbeing plan

Implementing a total wellbeing plan is something that takes time and commitment. You won’t always remember or feel like following through with your new wellbeing actions. That’s okay. There are things you can do to make following your plan easier.

Habit-formation expert James Clear recommends associating your new habits with existing habits, so they’re easier to remember. For example, imagine you want to build a meditation practice into your morning routine.

If you already drink coffee in the mornings, you can plan to meditate right after you hit the “on” button on your coffee machine. By combining your new habit with an existing habit, you’ll be more likely to perform the new activity.

For other habits, you might simply be resistant to one or more of them in the beginning. Find ways to combine those habits with an activity you already enjoy. For example, I recently decided that I could only watch my favorite TV show was when I was on the stationary bike at the gym. I’ve never been to the gym more consistently since I implemented that “rule” for myself!

Most importantly, remember that failing to implement your new habits or actions one day (or even two days, or three days!) doesn’t make you a failure. It’s never too late to re-implement your positive actions after you’ve regressed for some time. In fact, that’s the best possible thing you can do for your total wellbeing.

Improve your life with a total wellbeing plan!

Implementing a total wellbeing plan can improve the seven major areas of your life in big ways. When you create and follow a total wellbeing plan, you might only be incorporating small actions into your daily life. But performing those actions consistently over time may result in a more fulfilling, more energizing, and more invigorating life overall.

Escaping the rat race

Millions of Americans are escaping the rat race - or at least, they're hoping to. According to several reports, in recent years millions of workers have been quitting unfulfilling, often low-paying jobs in troves.

For instance, the higher-than-normal quitting rate in recent times has befittingly been dubbed The Great Resignation. It's clear that more and more Americans are looking for a better way to live.

If you find yourself wanting to escape the rat race, this article is for you!

What is the rat race?

The rat race is a phrase that describes the futile pursuit humans engage in to get ahead financially. The phrase evokes an image of rats running ad nauseam on a wheel, working hard every day but never gaining distance.

Similarly, many people working long hours in unfulfilling corporate jobs often feel as if they are toiling their lives away without ever seeing the financial gains they desire. For some, the rat race means working 60 to 70 hours a week just to be able to go on vacation for two weeks during the year.

For others, the rat race means spending their lives working a job they hate to afford large, expensive houses or cars. (Which admittedly, they then don't get to enjoy very much.) Those in the rat race often feel exhausted.

They feel unfulfilled and stretched thin. They never have enough time to spend their lives how and with whom they want. And they can never save enough money to feel comfortable leaving the rat race.

Why so many women want to escape the rat race

Even women with higher incomes are more likely to quit their jobs this year than men. And the truth is, ladies… we deserve better!

We've spent the last several decades climbing corporate ladders, breaking glass ceilings, and narrowing the wage gap. And one of the things women have realized through all this hard work is that there has to be a better way.

We envision a world with a sustainable work-life balance. Of course, we want to be successful in our careers. But we also want to be leaders of our families with the ability to enjoy financial success and freedom.

So what does it mean to escape the rat race?

Getting out of the rat race can look different for different people. For some, escaping the rat race means early retirement and the leisure to truly spend your time how you want.

For others, getting out of the rat race means work-optional. Escaping the rat race can mean working a job that pays less, but is more fulfilling, without experiencing financial distress. Or it can mean only working part-time at a high-stress job that pays well.

For many women, escaping the rat race means having:

 • The freedom to work from wherever you want.
 • The freedom to build a successful financial future.
 • Sustainable and energizing work-life balance without saying, "I don't want to work anymore".
 • The freedom to work and raise children without losing your mind.
 • The opportunity to make yourself rich, rather than someone else.
 • The opportunity to make progress toward your goals.

Whatever escaping the rat race looks like for you, know that you are not alone. There are many ways to get out of the rat race. It's all about finding a way that works for you.

How to get out of the rat race: 7 Key steps

To help you get started, here is a general path you can use that will help you create a plan to get out of the rat race and take back your life.

1. Write down your goals

Escaping the rat race means you'll be taking the road less traveled, which can be scary and intimidating. If you want to escape the rat race, you need to know why. You need to be able to state your reason(s) clearly so that if and when things get tough, you're motivated to keep moving forward.

Writing down your value-based goals is a powerful way to clarify your vision for your life and cement your goals on paper. When you write down your goals, you can post them somewhere in your home, so they're a constant reminder of what you're working toward and why.

I like to post my goals near my bathroom mirror since that's the first place I go to get ready for the day. I also post my goals in my office so I can see them when I'm working. Looking at my goals during my work hours is a great reminder of why I'm doing what I'm doing.

No matter where you post your goals, make sure they're easily visible in a space you visit often. Your goals will be the motivation you need to make daily choices that take you further along the path you want to travel.

2. Track your spending

Next, you need to track your spending for several reasons. Tracking your spending helps you know exactly what your monthly expenses are and how much income you'll need to generate so you can escape the rat race.

People who are looking to escape the rat race typically need to think of ways to generate "passive" income. Passive income means that you don't have to constantly trade your time for money. If you can figure out a plan to generate enough passive income to fund your monthly expenses, you're well on your way to getting out of the rat race.

3. Cut your expenses

Tracking your spending can also provide clarity on ways to cut back your expenses. If you can cut back your expenses, you'll have an easier time escaping the rat race. Cutting your expenses doesn't have to be painful.

Sometimes, all you have to do is think more creatively or spend more time planning for your expenses. For instance, finding frugal ways to save money such as couponing, automating your savings, and finding free fun things to do.

Another way to cut your budget is to find ways to reduce your grocery bill, such as shopping online for groceries to avoid impulse purchases and buying generic brands instead of name-brand items.

The good news is you can find ways to reduce expenses and save money even if you're on a tight budget. So start as soon as possible because cutting your expenses is how to get out of the rat race faster!

4. Increase your income

If you can't cut back on your expenses, or if you want to double-down your efforts to escape the rat race, you can also take steps to increase your income or create multiple sources of income.

There are many ways to increase your income, and not all of them require you to drop everything and start a business with a brand-spankin’-new idea that no one else has ever thought of before.

Increasing your income may also not be glamorous, but it can be life-changing. For example, you could get a side hustle like driving for Uber or DoorDash that allows you to work for extra money whenever you want.

You can also explore real estate investing options for beginners using strategies like house hacking that could potentially snowball into huge amounts of passive income.

And finally, it's no secret that entrepreneurship – or starting a small business – is an excellent way to increase your income.

5. Invest your savings

Unfortunately, you can't just save your way out of the rat race. Not only will you have to save an astronomical amount, the impact of inflation means that cash sitting in a bank account is actually losing value.

Investing your money is essential to being able to get out of the rat race. When your money is invested, it has the potential to earn a higher interest rate than money in even a high-yield savings account.

If investing makes you nervous, or if you have no idea where to start, check out our guide on How to Start Investing For Beginners. And rest assured that you do not have to be an expert to benefit from the power of investing.

6. Take baby steps

Unless you win the lottery or receive a huge inheritance (don't count on it), it's not likely that you'll escape the rat race in a single day, month, or year. Escaping the rat race takes time and consistent small actions. But small actions can compound over time into true financial freedom.

This is why it's important to post your goals in writing so that they're always top of mind. Escaping the rat race isn't easy, but it is absolutely possible. Keep reminding yourself of your why each and every day.

7. Keep at it

My most important piece of advice on how to get out of the rat race is to persevere. Escaping the rat race is one of the greatest gifts you can give to yourself and your family. However, it takes a lot of little consistent actions over time. No matter how small, remember that any steps forward are steps forward nonetheless.

You can escape the rat race to live better!

So now you know how to escape the rat race! I hope you can use the steps above to create a more fulfilling life. When you're writing your goals, make sure to visualize what your life will look like when you finally escape the rat race.
